Ozzie is a mother, a certified doula and the founder of Oov Lifestyle, a lifestyle brand for those looking to integrate cannabis into health and wellness. Before becoming a doula, she formed the Marin Alternative Mothers group, which created a community and early parent education for hundreds of new moms. With her background as a community builder and educator, she is now able to bridge the gap in cannabis education with Oov Lifestyle. Oov Lifestyle provides online content, interviews, product reviews, education events and much more. Oov Lifestyle is about bridging the gap between cannabis and motherhood, spreading knowledge, killing stigma and bringing women safe products to find the relief they are looking for.
How would you describe yourself and what you do?
I consider myself a community builder. I love bringing people together over a common interest, creating a platform for positive dialogue and fostering community. I don’t pretend to be something I’m not, and will always remain 100% authentic to my audience. Cannabis is a part of my daily life, and I find it enhances my mood in many areas. I use it to fuel my creativity in business, to ground me in parenting, and to connect with my husband. I share my experiences with the community and bring on other perspectives and voices to create a robust and diverse platform of relatable content.
How has Cannabis influenced or affected your life?
Cannabis helps me to access parts of myself that are deeply buried by daily tasks and chaos. In business, for example, I can focus and plow through three blogs within a couple of hours. The creativity that cannabis brings me is incredibly invigorating. I also find it gives me a different perspective in that I’m able to have a bird's eye view of what we are creating at Oov Lifestyle. It brings me clarity, and I can say with certainty that cannabis is the fuel that keeps me going.
What did you do before you got involved in the cannabis industry?
When I had my first child in 2010, I quickly realized motherhood is extremely alienating, especially if you tend to make unconventional birthing and parenting decisions. I was able to recognize what I needed most was a community of like-minded parents. I formed Alternative Mothers Group and was certified as a doula soon after that. I built a very successful doula practice and created a community for hundreds of parents in the Bay Area. Later I sat on the board of advisors for our first freestanding birth center here in Marin County. All of my endeavors have a common thread, and that is to create community and empower people to take their health into their own hands. My goal has always been to inspire people to think outside the box and consider all their options.
Why did you start OOV.life?
Today, Oov is something completely different then what I had originally envisioned, but you pivot until you find the fit. If you start your business from a place of love and with the motivation to create value, the rest will fall into place. I wanted to create a relatable and resourceful place for new consumers to find information and explore their options. We are nowhere near finished (not that I ever think you should be “finished” in business - you should always be innovating) this is just the beginning for Oov, and I’m excited to keep developing ways to support the industry as well as consumers.
What does wellness mean to you?
I definitely agree that wellness has different meanings for everyone. For me, it means operating at my highest level, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. Continuously working on fostering harmony in every area of my life. I’m still working on it, and I think wellness is an ever-evolving thing that needs constant nurturing.
What is your self-care routine? Do you incorporate cannabis into your routine and how?
I have to admit I’m not too great with self-care. Between running a business, caring for my children and maintaining a household, I don’t get much time left over for myself. Something that I really look forward to is that joint after the kids are asleep. I turn on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday and get lost in her words and teachings. That’s my nightly ritual, and it keeps me motivated. Oh also, I am a sucker for a good mani and pedi ;-)
What is your favorite way to use Cannabis? Do you have a favorite strain and why?
I don’t think I have a favorite way. I love ALL the ways! In the morning I love my edibles. 2.5-5mg is the perfect dose for me. It gets me going and keeps me going through the day. In the evening I like my vape because it is quick and easy between prepping dinner and baths. After the kids are asleep is when I like to bring out the flower… the ritual of grinding and preparing it is definitely something I love.
How has cannabis changed your life as a mom?
Parenting is tough, and it is easy to get lost in that. With cannabis, I’m able to let go of the pressure I put on myself to be the perfect parent. At the end of the day, kids just want to be heard and want to know they are the center of your world. I definitely have a much easier time accessing my playful side when I have consumed small doses of cannabis. They also have my full attention, I’m more relaxed and present…all of those things affect my kid's moods significantly and in turn, that makes the day go much smoother.
How has cannabis changed or added value to your daily life?
I use cannabis for mental health. I have always suffered from anxiety, depression and panic attacks. I’m able to regulate myself with the help of cannabis. Since incorporating it into my daily life, I have become extremely productive, not just with work but in healing my inner child. I still have moments of complete breakdown - nobody has a perfect life. I’ve been able to identify triggers and solutions much quicker with the help of cannabis.
